Seminars
The Health System Node (HSN) coordinates seminars to foster collaboration and promote research development that aligns with the objectives of the HSN and strategic goals of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN). Seminars include presentations and discussions of emerging topics in substance use research, new trial methods, novel approaches to prevention, and to health service delivery for people who use substances, have substance use disorders, or are in recovery. Seminar presentations are given by national and international experts.
HSN Seminars typically occur on the first Thursday of each month from 10-11am PST (1-2pm EST). Please contact
Morgan Ford if you would like to be added to the HSN seminar distribution list.

Qualitative Research Insights into Structural Disempowerment Among People Who Use Drugs This talk will begin with an overview of key insights into drug user health by qualitative researchers and then present results from a qualitative study on care for people with infective endocarditis. Both components of the talk will highlight how structural disempowerment harms the health of people who use drugs when they are seeking or in care and inhibits the capacity of health professionals to provide adequate care.

Lessons Learned About Treating Co-occurring Conditions Among Adults Receiving Substance Use Disorder Treatment This talk will briefly review the results of three large-scale randomized trials that targeted distinct issues—chronic pain, suicide risk, and insomnia—commonly faced by patients in substance use disorder treatment. The presentation will then discuss common themes across these studies, as well as potential lessons learned for clinicians and researchers interested in treating complex substance use disorder patients in real-world settings.
